I think in some Commonwealth countries they have aeroplanes to get to remote areas to offer aid, I think its to do with that aspect?

We used SJA as a private medical provider for the Clacton Air Show. They work with the statutory representation of East Of England Ambulance Service. They wore standard kit. This badge is probably for escorting patients by air which would entail additional medical training

In the seemingly heyday of airshows 1960s-1980s, when there were many more of these such events, St John were a common sight, so this makes sense.
