Default Defence Information Service

Does anyone have an image of the breast badge for this component of the Canadian Forces? What exactly are they?

DISO - Defence Information Services Organization. It is the old CF Communications Command, and I believe it is now Information Management Group.
I will try and find an image.

Default DISO

Bill, the complexities of the modern Canadian Military defy us all. I have a little info on DEFENCE INFORMATION SERVICES ORGANISATION (DISO) but hopefully Joe Costello who is a member of the Canadian Communications & Electronics Branch can provide a little more.

There was a major restructure in 1995, and the Canadian Forces Communications Command was removed from the Command Structure. The DISO replaced CFCC and reported directly to the Department of National Defence. DISO was in turn replaced with the Information Management Group. Further information on DGIMO, DIMOD, IMG and CFIOG can be found on page 77 of The Royal Cops of Signals Supplementary Volume published by Helion & Co Ltd.

Default DISO

Further to my last, I forgot to add that I dont have the date for the end of DISO, but it is my understanding that the so called DISO badge was still worn by IMG. The DISO badge is a little different to the old CFCC badge. Dont have my Canadian badges to hand to describe the difference. Perhaps some one else can clarify this for you.

Thanks. Sure sounds a little like the MASH episode, with Col. Flagg throwing all the acronyms around. I am under the impression that there were different patterns of the apparently short lived DISO breast badge?

Default DISO

Bill,

No I dont think there are versions of the DISO badge and I think it is still used but you will have to get a Canadian to confirm that. It is similar to the old CFCC badge that is all.

Here is an image showing the Canadian Forces Communications Command and DISO/ADM(IM)/IMG badges.
To avoid any confusion, these were/are not strictly "Signal Corps" badges, but were worn by personnel wearing all three service uniforms. (I wore the CFCC badge while part of the "Air Element" and the DISO badge after I was forcibly switched to the "Land Element")
The DISO badge is still being worn. Any variations in the DISO badge would be simply differences in manufacturer. There have been no design changes to the best of my knowledge.

Actually, Joe Costello picke up a variant of the DISO badge at the Ottawa Mil Show several years ago. He showed it to me but I cant remember what it was other than the item was centerd below the Lightning bolt.
