Great display Pieter
While on the subject of SRR anyone know the difference between the silver and gold coloured helmets? I guess the easiest answer is one for officers and the other or’s but both appear to in bullion so what would be the point? John |

One is real the other fake................... from what I've heard it should IIRC only be gold. Unless it is a manufacturerrs variation.

I was only postulating a theory...... however it seems the majority are silver and I am unsure, but these may be PP copies, because I know someone who is in and he says they don't actually get the badges that often..... only the guys on parade got them, they only draw uniform for the occasional parade, as most of the time they are in civies or DPM, in which insignia might be a little conspicuous. ![]() ![]() The Squadron presentation coin. They come in a clearly marked Royal Mint presentation box, there are two types: nickel alloy; sterling silver. The one in the pic is mine. Notes on the wing: The form of the wing was designed to be reminiscent of a canoe, in keeping with the SC role of the Squadron.Originally there were five(5) variants of wing: Blues; Lovat; Mess dress; Subdued; Stone shirt. The manufacturer is contracted to manfacture and supply SF items to SF units only. This code of conduct is strictly adhered to as the manufacturer is ex-SF himself. Therefore genuine items from the original manufacturer only make it out onto the circuit if you happen to know one of the lads in Poole. There is another manufacturer who does a nice line in copies and these are, 99.9% of the time, what is touted around the collector world. Subdued and Stone shirt wings: These are regularly seen on ebay and at collectors venues. These will in all probability not be real. The reason being, that they were only produced in a limited number for the first production run of the wings when the Squadron was newly badged. After which they were dropped, cos' they duzz'nt wear wings on their combats and they loiks to be low profile on course's so the duzz'nt wear 'em on shirts oither. And, everyone in Poole knows that everyone else is para trained, so who cares anyway. The only original SBS wing you can buy is the Mess dress wing ALL others are deemed official issue ONLY. |
