Default Opinions on 25th County Of London Cyclists Badge

Recently got gifted a 25th County Of London Cyclists Badge, and was wondering what people's thoughts were on it's authenticity? I've had a browse of the forum and online for other examples and in my opinion, mine appears to look okay. However I haven't seen any other examples with lugs instead a slider.

It is a fake sadly.

Genuine examples can be found on both loops and with a slider.

Thanks for the quick reply Luke, that's a shame.

Out of curiosity, and so I can look out for the same things on other examples, what indicates that this one is a fake?

Jonan.

The most obvious sign that this is a dud are the jewels on the rim of the crown.

They are hollow; this is an indication, on not this badge only, but others showing the same jewels, are fakes.

Regards.

Brian

It’s exactly as Brian says.

Your badge is from a well known fake die which was poorly rendered by those who produced it. Typified in this badge’s particular his case by the ‘hollow’ jewels.

I’ve attached some of mine for comparison. The BB example is an unmarked wartime made F.E. Woodward badge. Whilst it too lacks some quality you can see the jewels are solid. I also believe the badge far left is wartime for the same reason but do not know the maker.

The badge also came in WM which I’m still seeking an example of in case anyone reading can help.

Thank you both, that's really helpful. I'll look out for that when shopping around in the future. Hopefully others find this useful too. I've only been collecting a few years so I'll probably put some more up here in the future if i'm unsure.

I noticed on this fake that the holes in the crown are also pretty rough, and that the line of jewels up the center of it are leaning more to the left, perhaps other things for people to identify this die with.

I'll have to ask my Dad where he got it from, I'll report back if anything interesting comes out of it.

Thanks again guys,

Joe
