Wharton Militaria
During what we shall call ‘a debate’ with another member I’ve been informed that I’ve got this seller all wrong.
He’s had a chat with him and he’s got boxes of badges from Gaunt that were still on the pattern cards and that I need to ‘watch who I call a con man’ https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ctureid=196430 A picture says a thousands words they say so here are the seller’s in questions wares: Yeomanry https://www.whartonmilitaria.co.uk/i...adges_yeomanry … particular highlight here is the fake 3rd London Yeo with a Hallmarked slider, classy. From the fake die of course so comes complete with dodgy crown and wonky jewels. As the description says ‘‘most likely a private purchase from a London Jeweller.’’ Armour & Cavalry https://www.whartonmilitaria.co.uk/i..._armourcavalry … this seller has come to forum attention with his G&E Life Guards fakes which have craftily had the usually annealed part of the ‘v’ fretted (his fretwork skills will be a common theme!). So many highlights (should I say lowlights) but from Chad to retreating tanks to die stamped G&E 24L they’re all from Marsh the catalogue fake dies. War Raised Units https://www.whartonmilitaria.co.uk/i...warraisedunits … every MGC cap badge here is a well documented example of what not to buy, especially the RNDs! Volunteers https://www.whartonmilitaria.co.uk/i...ges_volunteers … again same old suspects! Note even the nicely voided badges look and are new! +90% of the badges this dealer is selling on these pages is straight out of the Marsh fake catalogue. Whilst someone may want to legitimise their own badge, which I can accept, the notion these have all come from Gaunt pattern cards/books is laughable. |

LOL, have a look at his Household Battalion badges and Machine Guards Guards. Just my opinion, I wouldn't touch any of his stuff.

I found a couple of good ones on there too.
RGJ Officers badge, dont think so. All ranks burnished finish. A blackened DLI badge, shame its the fake with the collar badge sized badge with a slider. A few Birmingham Mint examples in there too. |

Fair play Luke for calling him out some of the prices of those badges are crazy but as you know people will buy them.

Hair raising prices for that junk! Pity the poor suckers who have not seen this post. Kudos to Luke.

An interesting conversation you had with Nobby especially these parts.

I would say his Scottish Regiment officer badges are all brand new, wouldn't touch any of them.

I bought one of these cheaply here in Australia (aware that it is some form of repro):
https://www.whartonmilitaria.co.uk/d...1&item=PWW0036 but I wonder: is it the same sort of badge illustrated in Robin Hodges' book (item 16, p.196) which he labels as a reproduction made for wear on the piper's belt of the Black Watch? |

There is a section on his website marked ‘fun’.
Perhaps he should move some (most) of his wares into that category. |

Those enamelled "Life Guards" badges were being peddled by a well-known faker (by neither claiming they were original, nor fake, the good old "caveat emptor" defence) in the Midlands as far back as the late 70s. He could even do, errr, sorry GET you an EVIIIR enamelled badge if you wanted one...
Quality of the wares aside, no ability to search on a web page - especially one so richly and expensively stocked (rolls eyes) - is inadequate in this day and age. |

Search feature
Sorry for taking this thread off at a tangent but yes agree not being able to search in this day and age is poor I don’t even bother with web sites that don’t have that feature pity the mugs that buy this tat fair play to those calling it out
