Fire gilt Royal Engineers GVI Officers badge
Picked this one up today - picture doesn't do the fire gilt finish justice but a cracker GVI Royal Engineer Officers badge (K&K 1940), cheers Dean.

Looks like an OSD badge that has been gilded, is that correct?

Hi Alex,
It could well be as is not die struck by the rear but die cast like an OSD badge. Cheers Dean. |

Hi Dean
Yes, it is a bit unusual because fire-gilt badges I would usually associate with dress uniforms but the RE dress cap badge was silver/gilt, so probably privately gilded. Cheers, Alex |

It was only silver/gilt from 1949 onwards, before that these officers badges were gilt only, just as OR's badges were G/M only.

Thanks Thomas for the useful dating of the S/G version of the RE badge, cheers Dean.
