Thats good, looks like its taken from a news paper. Before our libary in Norwich burnt down, there was alot of newspaper cuttings in a scrap book put together in the 60s, it had photos in the local papers, dated from 50to 60 approx, none of the photos had the EIIR badge being worn sadly.

1952 was 60 years ago, if you had served, you might be 80 now, so we might expect some photos to come to the surface.

Not sure if NFK YEO where part of the 33rd AA RA.

You would think that with all of the following events taking place in the 50/60s ,there would be a good photo out there:

NATIONAL SERVICE MEN POSTED TO TA UNITS FOR PART TIME TRAINING IN 1950.
THE Z RESERVISTS RE-TRAINED WITH TA UNITS 1952. NFK YEO BEING ONE OF THE FIRST.
1953 FLOODS, MANY NFK YEO TA HELPED ON THE MARSHES.
THE CORONATION PARADE 5 OR 6 MEDALS AWARDED TO NFK YEO TA
1954 NFK YEO AMALGAMATED
1956 STATE FUNERAL OF KING HAAKON HONORARY COLONEL
1958 GOLDEN JUBILEE OF THE TA, 21 NFK YEO TA PEOPLE THERE

The next question is brass or a/a? The wider brass one on the right is a better match for me.
Yes I agree. The a/a one has always been suspect: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hlight=norfolk

Default Norfolk Yeomanry EiiR G/m

Just to add that I have a G/m badge which is the same as the A/A badge shown by Alan. I bought it from a local dealer who has connections in Norfolk along with Gold Gilt and silver frosted EiiR badges.

Rob

PS. This is one thread that has borne positive information for collectors, well done Postwarden . . !

No doubt there are photos post 1953 of the GviR badge being worn as there are always exceptions to the rule.

Rob

Hi All, lets see if this works, how about a list of ALL the other units, british and commonwealth, that have worn the EIIR cyper, with photos would be good , maybe after a few posts we might be able to see trend forming as to when or if worn, as way way way to many are from the Norfolk yeomanry. Lets not forget that in 1950 there where only 14 officers and 97 other ranks in NFK Yeo.

For me, the strong case for, EIIR being made the NFK yeo, is the fact that there Brass and Anodized buttons with the EIIR in the centre and Norfolk Yeomanry on a Garter.

Default EIIR Norfolk Yeomanry Badge

Hi all, spent most of the day on this today, and got to speak to Colonel I Makin TD Dl.( served Norfolk, then Suffolk, then Norfolk & Suffolk yeo) He remembers that in 1957 the yeomanry had the EIIR badge on the beret. 1967 it changed from the gun badge to Castle and title type.
He is going to get his photos out for me to have a look at, and the bonus is he lives just down the road, oh the powers of the net.

I have seen the photos of the NFK YEO from colonel Makin, they cover most of these events below plus alot of shows, tatoos, and other public events. Many have groups groups of men ,about 5 in each photo, so badges are nice and clear, but no one is wearing the ERII badge.

Default Die Struck single piece Norfolk Yeomanry EDVII pouch badge

Hi all,

Just adding to this thread of a recent addition. A die struck Kings Own Royal Norfolk Yeomanry badge with Edward VII cypher (of K&K 1476 pattern) and three drew post fittings to the rear. This one measures 54x40mm and is not the same size as the cap badge which I believe is noted in other threads as being 57x40mm. Dave's is a two piece cast flat backed badge 56x42mm.

I am assuming mine is a one piece pouch badge, regards Dean.

Hi Dean,

These appear to be from the shoulder chains worn above the letters KORR. The pouch badge was the cypher surmounted by a crown and surrounded by a wreath and scroll at the bottom (King's Own Norfolk Yeomanry). See Smith & Harris (1991).

Ref: Smith, R.J., Harris, R.G., 1991. The Uniforms of the British Yeomanry Force 1794-1914; 12: The Yeomanry Cavalry of Norfolk, The Ogilby Trust.

Default Norfolk Yeomanry Cavalry

Hi All

Does anyone have an image of the PAO Norfolk Yeomanry Cavalry Standard/Guidon that was given to them in 1844? I have had a good search around the tinterweb but no joy. I am hoping that someone will have it in a reference book

Hi Griff,

Someone may have this book: British Colours & Standards, 1747-1881 (1): Cavalry, Ian Summer.

It looks like a good bet, perhaps.

Best,

Marcus
