Hi Kev
Another one for you. Unfortunately, unlike the shakos and helmets etc., from this era that have survived the ravages of time, the poor old "pork-pie" cap will be a very rare item these days. It was a dark blue woolen cap with a "torrie" on top and sometimes had a chin strap. Regards Jeff 95F Crimea Lt.Coy.jpg |

And another. Incidently Kev, you are not strictly accurate in describing this as a Victorian headdress. It was actually introduced in Jany 1834. Jeff

And another. The PP cap was worn until about 1870 when Infantry regiments adopted the glengarry. But the Ghurkas still wore this headdress (in dark green) until after WW2 (I think) Regards Jeff

Known officially as the "Kilmarnock" I believe in case anyone needs the term for research.
I am sure some one will correct me if I am wrong. John |

Cheers Boy's it is what I thought it was, I have loads of photo's of them in books but none of them refer to it as a pork pie hat.
Thanks again. Kev. |

Pork Pie Hat
Here is a photo which I have been trying to get a better image of for a few days. It's from a postcard album which belonged to my wife's Aunt.I think it's a PPH. However I would really like to know if anyone can tell me which regiment it is. I have a suspicion it's a badge like the King's but don't know.

It looks like a King's forage cap for an officer so probably post 1881-ish and, feel free to correct me, I am only human!
