Has the world gone MAD?
This collar badge has just sold on eBay today for £245. It is described as a Victorian Queensland Volunteer Rifles collar badge. To me it looks just like a collar badge to the Royal Malta Regiment of Militia, an identical one of which sold on eBay in Oct 2011 for £21.
See here for the Australian one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1507628330...84.m1438.l2649 See here for the Malta one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scarce-Mal...-/190582271468 Please somebody put me out of my confusion, and tell me what the difference is! Thanks Ashantee |

One of his other badges went for AUD$800+ as well (The Red Cross collar badge mis-labelled as a Light Horse medical badge).

Hiya mate,
I didn't mention Australian items ! or whether what was being sold was good or bad ?? I said the first one, who happens to be based in the UK...... John Greenwood is a famous ( over here ) collector, his name crops up regularly as provenance for badges and I have no idea of who sold his collection. Dave. Bonhams, was certainly one outfit that sold a large amount of John Greenwood's collection.

Going through the replies.......
They both seem to be the same badge and the one sold as Maltese seems to have got themselves a bargain. That person will probably now identify it as per this post and make themselves a nice profit. Seems to be! |

OMG! That's quite a price.
Ashante, you're spot on. The attached is from some auction or seller's site. If the items aren't Maltese, then I'm a Martian! G'day lads. button_guru ---------------------- always interested in uniform buttons |

Thanks for checking this out everybody. Given a choice in future I will list all my maltese items as Australian! It seems to be a much more profitable endeavour! It is possible the Queensland unit wore the same design as the Malta unit. I actually do have one of these "Malta" collars - so I am open to outrageous offers from all of the Australian collectors out there - ha, ha. Best Ashantee

Ashantee,
Before you start selling any, let me know first. Since being Maltese items and not Aussies, I may get a good discount from you. Oh, and by the way, the infantry re-enactment unit at Fort Rinella styled as the Royal Malta Regiment, wore these collars too. Only their HP and collars are later day repros and of very good quality, except for the HP being all brass rather than bi-metal. See attached taken back in 2004. Rgds, button_guru |

Hi Button_Guru
I will most certainly PM you when I come to sell it. I attach a photo of mine for your information, front and back. I have had it for a good number of years. Kind regards Ashantee |
