Not an OTC to my knowledge.

Could be VTC?

Default Watford Coat of Arms Badge

I bought a small badge with a slider at a car boot which the seller told me was a collar badge, I never argue with an expert and went home to research it.

It was the crest of the borough of Barking and according to a well known Essex collector was worn by the VTC, apparently all the records were lost during the blitz.

There was a Watford VTC around in 1915 , it is mentioned in a "Hertfordshire Natural History Society and Field Club" article volume16 (November 1914-November 1916).

Default Watford Coat of Arms Badge

I have looked at my copy of "Herts V.R." and the only badges mentioned are the normal Hertfordshire badge worn August 1918, the Herts VR worn 1st and 3rd Btns, the VTC/stag/West Herts worn 2nd Btn from May 1915 and the General Service coat of arms.

It may of course be an unrecorded early VTC badge.

Interestingly there is the symbol adopted by the fascist party of Italy in the centre of this badge which may throw a different aspect on it altogether, only a thought!

The Watford connection is from the coat of arms of the town.
AUDENTIOR means GO BOLDLY
The cross is from St Alban
Two red Harts - Hertfordshire
Wavy blue lines represent two rivers through the town
The shells (scallops) are from the Earl of Clarendon the first Mayor
The axe and bundle of staves represents ‘majesterial authority’

But who wore the badge?
