Hi
Same badge set (with brooch fittings) was sold in 2007 by Noble Numismatics in Sydney for $460 plus commission. http://www.noble.com.au/auctions/lot/?id=216098 Regards Dennis |

It's strange (to me anyway!) that the badge carries ADS and ADA and the titles are AADS. Mike

These ones were on eBay recently but were yanked off early.
Guess the seller got a big offer for them. Mick

Was watching these as well, knew they'd be out of my price range but interested to see what they went for.

Hi BC
Quote:
If so, was it worn as a collar badge or hat badge? Was it worn by Dentists, or just by the (female) dental nurses ? All the best Dennis Last edited by militiaman; 26-03-16 at 12:45 AM. |

Hi
I have two of the round badges for the Aux Dental Services. Both of mine, however, have two lug fittings (as if to go an a lapel ?). Both are serial numbered (3 x digits long) and appear unused. IIRC the research with the Nobles auction of the dental badges claimed that the badges were created for civilian dental staff in the state of NSW who volunteered time and transport to help process the large number of army recruits being processed early in the war. Members of the NSW branch of the ADA (Australian Dental Association) volunteered to assist. The main issue was the status of the (female) dental nurses on the Army bases. The badges were specifically meant to highlight their official status. Apparently, the dentists (in their suits or dental gowns) appeared official enough. This may explain the badges having pin-back fittings (lugs for Dentists and pin-back for Dental nurses ?). I am personally unsure about the oval badge being military, and not some sort of badge from a Government health initiative, or a type of "on active service " badge for civilian clothes when off duty. The shoulder titles seem much more of a military thing. All the best Dennis Last edited by militiaman; 26-03-16 at 12:44 AM. |
