Sam brown belts

Hi all, just a little bit of advice needed. I have around 50 Sam brown belts, which I would like to marry up with the Norfolk/ royal Anglian tunics I have .

So for a cuff rank , would one with two straps be ok.
Is one worn on the fad uniform
Do only officers wear them
And when is the sword bit worn.

In answer to your questions:-
1) Depends on regimental custom, I believe that the Ox & Bucks Lt Inf continued to wear two straps much later than other regiments.
2) Yes they are worn on FAD uniform (now known as Number 2 Dress)
3) Officers of most regiments wear Sam Browne belts , likewise most Warrant Officers Class 1 also wear them. Sensible regiments (like The Rifles and The Royal Artillery) wear cross belts instead of the SB belt. Some cavalry regiments wear variations of SB belts (including small pockets for whistles)
4) Again, depends on regimental custom, some wear them (Sword Frog) at all times, other wear them only when carrying swords.

Probably not very helpful bit it does vary a lot from regiment to regiment.....

RANGLIAN have one shoulder strap which they wear with No1 and No2 Dress and only wear the sword frog when carrying a sword. The RSM would also wear one.

The Ox & Bucks wore a leather thong between the 2 straps for the whistle. The SB was worn right up until 1963 when the crossbelt was brought in.
The Queens Regt wore a whistle on the cross strap.
The Cameronians wore 2 straps but crossed at the back.

For a Great War cuff rank two straps generally an early WW1 practice as the war progressed officers either purchased more appropriate load bearing equipment in Webbing or cotton or web covered leather or used issued pattern 1908 or 1914 equipment in some cases with adaptations

The name is actually Sam Browne after Sir Samuel J Browne.
