Was it normal for the wire prongs on the birds to be exposed, or should they have been covered by the backing?

Shouldn't the birds be opposite facing?

And I believe the buttons should be screw shank on a base.
This may be a made up pair of boards using a pair of RN boards. Steven |

RNAS LT Pilot Shoulder boards
Hi all
Must confess I hadn't even thought about which way they were facing! I should have done. I'll shut up again and stop making comments ... it's safer! Pete |

Never stop...that way I won't be the only guy on the forum looking like an idiot...just kidding . They're a great pair and something to be proud of, judging by the eagles, they were probably worn like that originally which is good. The buttons probably should be screw shank but they weren't always available so I believe standard buttons were often used. Cheers, Alex |

Gentleman thanks you much for your comments.
Putting aside the minor issues, I am very happy to have got them and feel they are genuine. I had noticed the eagles were not opposing, but wasn't aware of the button issue. I believe these variations are well with in the realms of day to day wear. Always appreciate any comments made, it all helps to build discussion and understanding. Cheers Gareth |

The buttons are not a problem, they were usually fastened to the shirt with split rings.
