Default Too many auction houses ?

This is not particularly about auctioneers of militaria although most local auction houses seem to like to sell militaria if they can.

I have noticed over the last couple of days that one firm of auctioneers based in Cheshire is advertising valuation days at a stately home and another firm based in Warrington now has announced that there are now a number of locations around the town where items to be sold at auction can be left so making it easier for vendors to consign items.

I wonder if the above is because the number of provincial auction houses has now reached saturation point with more and more firms fighting for items to be consigned to them. I think the antique shows on the T.V. are responsible for this increase in number, they have given the impression that any idiot can become an auctioneer. Now if you look on sites like "The Saleroom " you will find that there are many auctions being held throughout the country on almost every day of the year and the auctioneers seem to be trying to find ways of attracting new business.

I do wonder what the outcome will be , commission rates falling perhaps to attract more vendors ,or will we start to see smaller auction houses going bust ?

P.B.
