Searching for info about Polish Army
Good afternoon everyone.
I am looking for some info concerning the Polish Army in Exile (in Britain) during WWII. A correspondent sent me a scan of a Polish Army member and he is wearing a battle dress with Poland shoulder titles. I am trying to find out if he is an officer or O/R. In one photo he is wearing headgear similiar to what a Cdn. army officer would wear but the bill of the forage cap is made of a shiny material. Did O/R's in the Polish Army wear a beret or wedge cap? Also, he is wearing a shirt and tie with his battle dress. I would presume he is an officer but it is difficult to see if his battle dress has epaulets. Any info would be welcome. Moe |

Hi Moe,
I am Polish and collected Polish WWI extensively for many years. Perhaps I can be of some help. If you post the photo in question I can definitely tell you whether he is an officer or OR. Caps worn by both Officer's and OR's were universal. They both wore berets and wedge caps. The only difference would be that Officer's had rank distinction under the eagle. Likewise with the wedge. A shirt and tie did not have any bearing or rank either I'm afraid. Hope that was of some help. Post the photo and I can tell you a lot more about it. Cheers, Greg |
