Here's a further contribution to "Show your 9th Lancers Badge Day!".
A QC Wm badge with strengthening to the vulnerable point. A Victorian Silver Plate with strengthening to the vulnerable point. A Fake Vic Wm with OTT strengthening bars. A Further observation, having looked at so many 9th Lancers badges, is that the better ones appear to have a smaller central hole to the "9" inside of which is at least one clear joint showing to the sections of Bamboo lance poles! 12th Lancers
Hi,
Keith asked if there was a 12th Lancers economy badge. I have a badge which has GM pennons (no sign that WM sections were applied). However, the POWs feathers are in WM. It does look like a bit of rush job that slipped through Quality Control. Cheers, Tinto |

12th Lancers Economy?
Hi Keith and all,
I have found this 12th Lancers badge amongst my damaged lot. I think it would be the Economy issue. Cheers, Tinto Last edited by Tinto; 07-06-10 at 10:44 PM. Reason: Fixed a typo. |

Regular Cavalry "Economy" Badges c1915-19
Hi all
Is there a "definitive" list of all brass economy badges for the Regular Cavalry for WW1? Gaylor has a list..... but I remember "Boff grade" forum members telling me that this list was incomplete in other threads that i mentioned the "economy" issue. I would like to create an Album with collected photos of correctly identified Cavalry Economy badges

Regular cavalry economy badges
Hi Griff,
The definitive list is in Kew, but hidden amongst all the other lists of kit in the War Office: Army Clothing Department: Register of Changes (WO359/16). All you need is a day to go through it. Stephen. PS- Today I went to look up WO32/16946 which is the LDY Dress & Embellishment file- somebody's nicked it! |

this is a project which I have on the back burner... The rules should be similar to those in my Infantry 1916 album.. i.e. only badges which were normally issued in two metals (bimetal) were to be made in all Gilding metal.. I have Genuine examples of most of them... but as always there are a few that appear that should not exist! One of the things putting me off listing any more albums is the inability to move or edit images! Hope Mike can find some means to rectify this shortcoming! Andy |

Oddly K&K list these versions but do not mention the Inf ones.
In this book the 3rd Hussars does not appear (it should not as the scroll is only tagged). However 17 Lancers does - IMO this was not an economy badge but made for something elses - either cast bazaar, mis identified officers lugged badge or for another order of dress than khaki. There was no 1st Draggons all brass badge as the regt was wearing the unofficial eagle and had no need to replace their bi-metal badges. They are very hard to find and I only have 3 examples - 7 Hussars, 3rd DG and 21 lancers. Alan |

Excellent..... well I dont mind creating an album and making it look good ..... I will put up members badges in the album (if this is ok)....... and then we can judge their validity (as "economy" badges) from reference sources and group concensus?
A seperate excercise can be carried out for the "Yeomanry Cavalry"....... this will be a tough task..... but I am sure that with everybody's help we will manage to get a good list going. Remember that a change of badge design c1916.... didnt necessarliy mean "economy".... I use the Essex Yeomanry as an example.

going from an all gilding metal to an all gilding metal badge would not qualify anyway! Albums will be small, probably no more than half a dozen or so Yeo 1916 Economy badges anyway, whereas a dozen or so Cavalry! Supporting photographs will not show much either, the designs were the same just in GM which won't show up that well! Front and back of each badge should suffice!! No lugged badges either? Andy |

Hi Andy
With Reg Cav economy the badge does change ....... I have seen all brass economy fakes that are simply casts of the Bi-metal..... whereas the true badge has a different design. Here is a case in point....... is the above badge "good" compared to the badge below?

Griff,
I should have said supporting photographs of them in wear.. as these would probably be in B&W and not definate! Andy |
