Andy .... if you look above the top loop post...... does it look like there was a slider there? I think those two loops are a later addition?

Griff,
not sure to be honest but this un-voided pattern is quite a common restrike. I'll post a good example at the weekend. The only 1916 all GM badges that were unvoided (when regular badge was voided) that I am aware of were, RA, RE, ASC and possibly Herts Regt! The Tank Corps, Cyclist Corps, Flying Corps and QM AAC non-voided badges are all spurious IMO. Andy |

Heres one i have, i can not say if its genuine or if there was an economy for thre 21st.
I was hoping KLR might have some information on cavalry economies. Cheers Malc

here are two of mine, one is a bit roughly struck but I am happy with both. Some Cavalry 1916 issued badges are a bit spurious, e.g. where is the economy in a 9th Lancers badge? I am certain that despite the Cavalry Regiments thinking that they are often above regulations, unless they had a regular pattern Bi metal badge, I cannot see why authority would be granted to have the exact same badge struck in another metal! I am sure Julian knows where to find the answer! Andy |

Bosleys sold an economy 9th Lancers on Wednesday, I can't remember the exact price but it was well over £100.

Both the 12 and 21st are fakes. Neither regt was among the cavalry regts to be issued with all brass versions.

I have a couple which I will show in the morning! They are very good examples, whether genuine or not remains to be seen!

Morning all
To add to this thread, here is a picture of a 21 Lancers all-brass badge. I am the first to admit that it is a rather manky badge and poorly finished, but because of where it came from I am happy that it is genuine. When I got this I got it with a load of other WWI cavalry badges, most of which were poorly finished, as if there was too much of a rush on the supply for the makers to be too bothered with the niceties. Opininions welcome, but I am sure this is good. Sorry I don't have a photo of the back available at the moment. Cheers, Alex |

9th Lancers - All GM 1916 (Economy) Badges
Leading on from another thread and as a result of a 9th Lancers (EI?), selling at auction for £275.. I thought I'd start this thread.
The official stance was that badges currently (1916) issued in a single metal, were not to be issued in all Gilding Metal (Brass), i.e. if ORs were wearing an all White metal badge then there was no "Economy" in producing an all Brass version? I have evidence (thanks to mostly KLR) contained in my Regular Infantry EI Album to support this: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hp?albumid=400 Here's a couple for your consideration. Image 1 & 2 are of, IMO a Fake. - The detail to the pennons is awful, the strengthening bars to the rear of the lances are Fantasy and the overall quality is poor - Flat (Repro Crown), Lance Tips and overall finish! Image 3 & 4 are of my other badge which I am a lot happier with, it is well made, the detail is crisp, the badge has some depth to it and the patina and overall feel is very good! It also come from a very similar die to a Wm example which I have. Andy |

I do stress that my opinion is only based on the photos but the reinforcing bars look new

I agree with mati, not a very convincing attempt at one of those quality touches you would look for in a badge and could have been put to a better use like rewiring someones house

9th Lancers was never officially produced in all brass. The bars merely add to the deceit.

I am not dismissive of reinforcing bars in general I have had them on Connaughts, the onbe I sold to Andy and 12th Londons. I look at these and, admittedly only in photos, and they don't look convincing on this particular badge. On my Herefords they do.
