"VB" In Laurel Wreath Brass Badge Skill At Arms?
I bought this badge some months ago, as an "unknown".
I wondered if it may relate to the Vickers Berthier, one of the guns used in trials during the early 1930's to find a replacement for the Lewis Gun in the British forces (the Bren being the gun that was chosen). A fly in the ointment with that theory is of course that in 1921 the Lewis Gun "LG" badge had been chosen as the badge to represent the LMG qualification. The Vickers Berthier was used by the Indian army during the 1930's-40's, I wonder if an "old school" CO still regarded the "LG" badge as "Lewis Gun" and countenanced the use of this cast "VB" for Vickers Berthier gunners? Or if it was used by the post-independence Indian forces, or produced as a "promotional" item to accompany the Vickers Berthier LMGs during the trials, or if it is a sleeve or cap badge with no connection to the Vickers Berthier......? Does anyone know what it is please? |

VB badge
The badge appears "sandcast" so I think you are on the right track thinking Indian Army.

I get the impression that the wreath, "V" and "B" have been separate components brazed together and then used as a master to cast this one piece badge.
