One of the eagle buttons was on eBay being sold as Polish Forces in Exile 1939 - 45 and made by Firmin London.
The eagle described as of "Kurica style". Apparently that means eagle without crown, not that I knew and I don't know why a Polish Forces in Exile button would have an uncrowned eagle. It seems unlikely that a Polish Forces in The East uncrowned eagle would be made in London. |

Hi Leigh, thank you and I agree it seems strange they would produce an eagle without the crown. For that reason I had discounted the Polish avenue, I will try the Sikorski institute and see what they say, best wishes Mike

Quote:
"After World War II, the communist authorities of the Polish People's Republic removed the "reactionary" royal crown from the eagle's head." The crownless design was approved by resolution in 1955. To counter that, the Polish government in Exile introduced a new emblem with a cross added atop the crown. And this from 1st Polish Infantry Division website : "The main difference was the type of eagle used with the cap. The pre war crowned eagle was officially replaced by a new style of crownless eagle. This type of eagle was referred to as the “Piast eagle”. However, soldiers derogatorily called it “Kurica” – “chicken”. Once troops reached the borders of Poland it became fashionable to replace the unpopular “Kurica” eagle insignia with the pre war M.1919 metal eagle. This practice was tolerated among troops until the end of WW2." Photos: 1. Coat of arms of the Polish Government in Exile (1956–1990) 2. Coat of arms of the Polish People's Republic (1955–1990) Would Firmin have made buttons for Polish People's Republic ?
