Default Federated Malayan States Volunteer Rifles

Hello Gents,

I managed to acquire a great set of insignia to a MAJ Guy Sansom who served with the Federated Malayan States Volunteer Forces from WW1 to 1950. He was unfortunate to have also been a POW from 1942 -45. As the photos show the group includes a couple of shoulder straps with FMSVF slip-ons, Malayan States Volunteer Rifles Hat Badge, Federated Malayan States HB and a quantity of MAJ's rank both metal and economy issue. The group also includes a tiny FMSVF button and an unknown badge, possible a school badge? All up a great set with a great story behind the insignia.

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul

Searching online shows each half of the mystery badge featuring on current house badges of Kings College School Auckland, so perhaps an enquiry to their archivist may bear fruit? Was your chap from NZ originally?

Nice group of items, great that they come with provenance.

Graham

Hello Graham,

Yes the soldier is a Kiwi and I must have come across the Kings College link the same time as you. I believe he was a former student so am chasing this down now.

Regards

Paul
