Default Royal Artillery cap find at flea market

I picked this up at a Northern California flea market this morning. Based on the buttons and the seven grenade flames I'm assuming this is a Royal Artillery dress cap for probably an officer. There are no labels so I'm guessing a private purchase item. How do you date a cap like this? Is it a WW2 era cap?

It could be WW2 but just as likely 1946 - 1952 era.

The Coloured Field Service Cap for officers was introduced in 1900 Dress Regs para 417, but abolished in 1902. However it continued unofficially in India and crept back for wear at home sometime by 1937. RHA Officers wore a George vi cypher badge from around 1947. Did RHA Officers wear a particular badge in India in 1930s?
In the meanwhile the Drab (khaki) Field Service Cap was introduced to be worn with Battle Dress in 1939. Again there was a bronze cypher badge (with blades, or with lugs) for RHA Officers.

Robe,

Irrespective of flame quantity, RE officers bullion badges have a blue scroll and are on a dark blue backing.

The RA officers bullion badges have a red scroll and are on a red backing like this one.

I think what you can see are the gaps in the broken wire. Wrong colour backing to the scroll and cap, for RE.

Very nice cap find! Congratulations. Though the bullion looks like it’s sustained. Some battle damage from too many parties at the mess. D.J.
