Buttons with four stars back mark
I found a 24.4mm KC General Service button with this back mark some time ago but I have now added a 25.1mm 1881-1903 Princess of Wales Own (West Yorkshire) to my KC other ranks collection and I'm wondering if its really that old?
Has anyone encountered any other buttons with this mark or knows anything about it. Rob |

I have around 30 designs marked * * * *.
My impression is that they date from the 1950s and early 1960s. Mine are all police, ambulance, fire brigade and bus company buttons. My old thread on these 'non-text' backmarks: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ht=greek%2Akey |

Hi btns, thanks for the reply I didn't add it to the previous thread because I was suspicious of it being a fake.
Could this button date from around 1951 when the "A" cypher changed back from the pointed topped to the earlier pre 1903 flat topped design? Could it be a missing link between Ripleys 316 and 317? Rob |

1951/1952 is a good option because some of my * * * * buttons end and some start in 1952.
These non text back marked buttons are never high quality. It could have been a "get it out quick" by a subcontractor to the big button manufacturers. It is a nice find. |
