Default Cord Boss for ID, please

Would appreciate an ID for this cord boss and badge, please:

Boss 1.jpgBoss 2.jpg

It came with a lot of London badges, and I originally thought it might be 6th CLR, but have since learned that the 'Cast Iron Sixth' wore red cord bosses.

With thanks,

Peter.

Had the opportunity of speaking with Dixon Pickup, whilst at Aldershot this afternoon; he is of the opinion that this item is most likely to be an Indian Army (rifles regiment) boss.

Just thought members might be interested.

Hi Peter,

That places it pretty far from your main area of interest but having seen and handled the badge today it is one that if I were in your shoes I'd still be tempted to keep it as a curio. It is a very nice piece in my opinion and one of the nicest boss badges I have seen due to it's unusual and construction, of course the fact that it it to a Rifle regiment sways me in its favour.

Nice to see you at Aldershot today mate.

Regards

Ry

Likewise, Ry; always good to see you mate.

Dixon was telling me that early boss badges were all originally constructed of wire (as with my example) and that the non-wire bosses not only post-date the wire examples but were of course cheaper to produce.

It's a nice badge, and one I am happy to have come by.

Cheers,

Peter.

That's good to know Peter,

I shall keep a look out for similar examples in the future. The only similar boss I recall seeing may be one in (8th Foot) PB's collection (I may be mistaken, it may be fine cord as opposed to wire)!

I assume that the wire on your example is silver? If so even more desireable! Do I take it that it's a "keeper"?

Yep, it's a 'keeper' though not sure if it is silver.
