Help with Ribbon ID
I acquired the following Dutch WWII group and having difficulty in identifying one of the ribbons in a ribbon bar.
The groups consists of the following: 1. 'Nederland' British made officers bronze cap badge 2. Dutch War Commemorative Cross 3. Miniature Dutch Cross for the Four Day Marches 4. Miniature Dutch Prize medal of the Army competitions in Venlo, 1929 5. Medal bar with Military MBE(or OBE), Dutch War Commemorative Cross, Unknown The last ribbon (Orange with two green strips on outer edge) is the item I am having difficulty identifying. I have looked at various Dutch medal sites but to no avail. Also looked at other foreign and Commonwealth medal ribbons and also no luck. I did however find a ribbon on the following site - http://www.frontiernet.net/~ericbush/MiSh/Regt.html that shows UK regimental ribbons and it appears to be to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers ( see attached image). Did the Dutch forces and the RIF have a connection during WWII or am I looking along the incorrect lines? Any help appreciated... Steven |

Medal Ribbons
Hello Steven,
It would be worth posting your query on the British Medal Forum, they have a specific Ribbon section. https://britishmedalforum.com/index.php You may have to register but I’m sure it will be worth the effort. Best Wishes |

Hi Steven,
I think it is the Dutch War Commemoration Cross 1940-45 ribbon. Regards, John |

Ribbon
I second John's ID of the ribbon. Dutch War Commemoration Cross 1940-45.

Initially I also thought that but he second ribbon is the Dutch War Commemoration Cross 1940-45 (Green/Yellow/Green). The third ribbon is (Green/Orange/Green) and I doubted that there would be two Dutch War Commemoration Cross ribbons on the same bar. Steven |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Commemorative_Cross Could the green/yellow/green possibly be for the French Military medal ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9daille_militaire .

Mike,
I think you are onto something there. If this Dutch officer got an MBE, then it stands to reason he may also have got the French Médaille Militaire. Thanks for the point in the right direction. To Ian and John, It looks like you guys were spot on as well regarding the last ribbon. I definitely had in wrong right from the start. Cheers Steven |

The first ribbons for the Dutch War Commemorative Cross 1940-1945 were made during the war in the UK, these were green-orange-green. Later types were green-yellow-green.
So both ribbons are for the same medal (Oorlogsherinneringskruis 1940-1945), however it is strange there are two ribbons in the bar. I have not seen that before. The correct order is Dutch ribbons first, then foreign ribbons, so the MBE (or MBE) is last. This link shows both types of ribbon: https://www.maritiemdigitaal.nl/inde...l&id=101050092 Do you know the name of the dutch officer? May be I can find some additional information on him. Regards Richard |
