Are the fakers now faking blow holes?
Would appreciate any comments on these two. The Leicester's look as though it was made yesterday. I always thought the presence of gas holes was usually a sign of authenticity?
As for the Glos badge, I understand they were made in all GM but think this is a fake. Any help appreciated. Cheers, John by |

I am sure the Gloster is bad, but the back badge is good.
I don't know what to say about the Leicesters. It actually looks OK to me, but that slider is one I am not familiar with, either on fakes or genuine badges. CB

Thanks CB
I totally agree with your comments. The Leicesters slider is non bendable but the badge looks brand new. Strange looking badge. Cheers, John |

Some repros do come regularly with braze holes, the Loyal Suffolk Hussars for example.
Your beret sized Royal Leicestershire looks fine to me, a ‘minty’. The GM Gloucestershire has the die flaws within and below the tablet associated with the repros. So alas a dud. |

Hi Luke,
Its a full size pre 1946 badge. I collect to the Leicestershire Regiment as it is our family regiment. Not seen one like this before. As you say a mint badge, very short but strong slider, correct blow hole positions. Just looks too good to be true? Cheers John |

From a very old thread on short sliders. Looks to be the same genuine tiger from a quick comparison, but in used condition. Mark |

The glosters appears to have its slider electric welded on, seen on some fakes, welsh horse for instance.

Is the Gloster back badge also a dud?
Thanks, Terry |

Thanks Mark. I am now happy it is a good one but how it has survived for around 75 years plus in as new condition with original lustre finish front and back, I do not know.

..... does anyone know why the Glosters Sphinx has breasts? This has always intrigued me as the real Sphinx does not.

Although the Sphynx at Giza does not appear to have breast (do not know if it originally had and they have been eroded) - it is a mythical creature with the head of a human, the body of a lion, and the wings ... Her coiffed head is erect and she has the breasts of a young woman.

I wonder how well informed the 'designers' of the badge were, back then. Interesting question though. JT |

I think at the design stage the whole thing went tits up.

An illustration from 1725 shows a female sphinx , so possibly badge makers were working off old documents ?
