Medal replacement
A friend of mine served with the RAF in Aden 1964-66 and does not have his GSM which was issued to him.
Can any forum member recommend anywhere he can get a replacement? Would the replacement have the bar which I think was entitled Aden or South Arabia? Could the replacement medal have the name, rank and number engraved on it? Any help would be appreciated, thanks for looking. Rob |

Award Medals do replacements , "discreetly stamped with the word 'COPY'" and they will engrave details on the edge.

I know WWII campaign medals and stars are no longer issued by MOD as duplicates for those lost but don't they still provide duplicates for lost post war General Service Medals? (I may well be wrong on that).
Edit : Looks like it has to be stolen or damaged / destroyed rather than lost: https://www.gov.uk/apply-medal-or-ve...medal-or-badge |

That is certainly very interesting, I suppose it is a reflection of the hard times we find ourselves in these days, for example, the number of recently issued GSM's that have ended up on ebay almost instantly after being claimed.

Good News!
I bought a replacement for my friend which he was pleased with. The word "COPY" was not stamped on it and the edge was plain, so he could get it engraved with his details.
Thanks to all who replied. Rob |
