Hi Mate,

Sounds a bit off spec...

I have the specification for the pins if you want to go one step further.

Regards,

Chris

Yep, but that is a modern badge while the Gurkha Signal was authorised in the CCN of 1963 and gone by 1973 so you can't compare LB&B components as the LB&B started in 1973.

Spec I have is dated 1956 with 0.021" as the thickness required for plates which were also to be made of brass. My RTR does satisfy this requirement.

Lots of fun reconciling component parts to era to specification to manufacturer etc. eh!!!

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris,
They are now called the Queens Gurkha Signals and were formed in 1977 until the present day. Although now down to a Company's strength I believe they still wear the Queen's Gurkha Signals badge. Wouldn't that make the timeline for the LB&B badge still possible?
Best Regards

Hi UKBrits,

All I have for the A/A badge is single entry in the CCN of 1963. This entry is not in the next document which was the COSA of 1973. Therefore it implies that officially the A/A signals badge was only authorised for issue (and it may never have been issued) between these two dates although in fairness I do not have the CCN of 1960.

However as the badge is not in the COSA of 1973 I would expect it was long gone before then or it would automatically be carried over to this document as a matter of course. As LB&B did not get started until then I would not expect them to be officially involved.

If you can find some LB&B collar badges (if they made them) and reconcile the lugs back to your Gurkha Signals badge then you will have proved its manufacturer and hence by time line found an unofficial commission. This would be an interesting task but one that may end in disappointment. However, if you do find LB&B were knocking these out for the usual suspects then it would give valuable credence that the one part badge was the officially authorised item.

The only other piece of info I have for Gurkha Signals is that of a pattern card of pre A/A metal which was 'promoted' to A/A usage.

In all this work over the last few years I have to state that the Gurkha Signals badge is one A/A badge noted for its absence of official documentation.

Regards

Chris

They do wear the Queens Gurkha Signals badge. I watched them march out of Windsor Castle a couple of years ago.

Yes, but in what material - that is the issue.

3 Sqadrons are listed in this wikipedia entry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen's_Gurkha_Signals

and on the MoD site

http://www.army.mod.uk/signals/organisation/8877.aspx

which shows the QGS badge being worn. I spoke to a QGS Sargeant at ITC Catterick last year, and by then they were wearing a metal badge.

With the QGS being re-named in 1977 you would think a anodised badge would have been produced and sealed?
