I've not included the Gurkha badge you have mentioned as I've not come across any official authorisation to issue. Para PRI items the same as they were not official items although were often worn by service members in the course of their duties. Regards Chris |

Royal Regiment of Scotland is 'new metal'. The Gurkha Band - I have an unmarked slider version in A/A - do you have a lugged version with plate? Regards Chris |

I don't recognise those lugs at all - certainly not Firmin who made most of the Gurkha badges. Can you remember where it came from? Assume no makers marks to to the components of the plate. Shaw Munster used to (possibly still do) mark their plates for RAF badges. Regards Chris |

Hi Chris,
These are lugs normally used on collar badges. The small thin Gurkha badge allows itself to be better suited and less likely to break using collar badge style lugs imo. Can't remember where I got it from but it was a while ago. It is not a recent Shaw Munster badge with backing plate. This may well be Firmin style collar badge lugs? Perhaps other members of the forum will know. There has been a thread before on the Gurkha Signals a/a badge with other pics of this badge somewhere on the forum Hope this helps UKbrits |

Chris,
Turned up this 7th Gurkha Rifles cap badge with a backing plate and pin. However I cannot say with any certaintly that it was issued this way?

Hi Guys,
OK - time to get nerdy. Looking through at the specification for Plates for Titles and Numerals last updated on 13th April 1956 I note that the size used is No.8 (Old Birmingham Metal Gauge) which equates down to 0.021" or 21 thou of an inch. This therefore has to be the official standard. Measuring my plates that came with the RTR and 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles I have a measurement of 0.021" but for the Queen's Own Highlanders it is only 0.018 thou. My Royal Corps of Signals is in a sealed bag and I really don't want to open it so can't measure. Can someone measure the thickness of the backing plate on their two part Gurkha Signals badge and posy result here. Regards Chris |
