Royal Marines Globe but which Badge?
The following Globe badge arrived recently with a mixed group and I wondered if someone could tell me which badge it belongs too. I have looked at Paddy's excellent Royal Marines album but could not tie it down exactly.
The Globe measures 27 mm overall in diameter and as can be seen has a screw thread post fixing to the reverse which protrudes approximately 5 mm from the reverse rim of the Globe. Any thoughts appreciated. Regards, Simon. |

Many thanks Leigh,
Looking at Paddy's album I wondered if it was either RMA or RMLI Officers type and the PDF attachment seems to back that up I have never handled an example of either and so am unaware of the exact construction but the screw thread would seem an obvious method to attach the Globe to the backing. Regards, Simon. |

I've never owned or handled such a badge, the closest I've got to one is seeing just the globe in a shop window in Canterbury about 30 years ago and I couldn't buy it because the place was always shut.

I would agree with Leigh. The centre piece of a RMLI or RMA bullion forage cap badge. I have just measured the ones I have and they are all approx 27mm in diameter. If you feel like moving it on then I may well be interested. Paddy |
