Default 1916 Hants - not

http://www.mindenmilitaria.com/viewphoto.php?x=1

I would not normally bother but good grief - it's a cast lugged copy....

and this one http://www.mindenmilitaria.com/viewphoto.php?x=1

To be clear all 1916 badges had sliders less the Royal Scots.

Please try harder

Rod runs Minden, and I have had some very positive dealings with him. I notice both links show the badges removed. I think he is a good and trustworthy dealer and will continue to do business with him.

Greetings.

I'm not taking any sides in this, but will say that Rod has an extensive collection of Hampshire related items and has been a collector of said Regiment for a long time.

I would of thought that with his experience of Hampshire badges and knowledge as a dealer, he should have realised that the badge subject of this thread wasn't as he purported it be.

As said, I'm not taking sides, we all make mistakes.

Regards.

Brian

I’ve been really quite disheartened by offerings of late, understand he’s winding down but that’s no excuse for some of what is hitting that site. There is practically an obvious repro on every page of late at top dollar prices.

Page 1 - GM Hants (cast copy on loops)
Page 2 - GM North Staffs (incorrect loops)
Page 3 - North Devon Imperial Yeomanry (common MM cast fake)
Page 3 - WM Royal Scots (common rounded letter fake)
Page 5 - 4th V.B. Hants (cast copy - checkout the reverse and footed loops)

That’s £93 of dud badges to a buyer not counting the 4th V.B. and NDIY which are already sold, and were certainly +£100 each. A lot of money for scrap metal.

Even the ubiquitous Martin Marsh dumpy POW plumes fake 15th London I pointed out months ago is now sold. Far too many collectors rely to the point of blindness on a dealers say so.

This is why I always advise ‘buy the item, not the seller or their story’. Reasons being...

1. Dealers are human and make mistakes.
2. Many don’t know as much as they allude or you think they know.
3. Some don’t care what they sell.
4. Some are downright dishonest.
5. ALL want your money.

Lugged 1916 badge - really for £35? Absolutely not a genuine 1916 cap badge. The genuine badges were sealed with vertical shanks. Sorry but this really is beyond the pale. If the seller in question is a forum member either under a pseudonym or as a lurker then please note that such items do not enhance a reputation.

Default Another day, another (very obvious) repro!

That brass looped Devonshire with the solid crown is a repro from the Martin Marsh die, pure and simple.

£35 is a joke. It’s horrendous and anyone who has been collecting more than 6 months would be able to tell that badge is not right. Just look at the state of back and colour. Then add in it’s on loops etc. etc. all wrong for a 1916 GM.

Very disappointing, yet again.
