Numbered For Loyal Service Badge
Hi Guys,
I picked this badge up for a couple of quid a few weeks ago. I always thought that the loyal service award badge was a generic award being unnumbered. This one has the number 3676 stamped onto the clip together with a marking of: MK in a circle with letters touching each other. The rear of the badge also has the letters: M & K W to the lower rear of the badge implying that the parts were manufactured by the same company. Does anyone know why this badge is numbered and who the maker was? Regards Chris |

Hi Chris,
Not sure about the number but M K W is probably Mayer and Kean Wellington, a New Zealand badge maker. Regards, Tinto |

Thanks; looks like they are just down from the Basin Reserve. I'll check them out tomorrow. I picked the badge up at the Samson market. Seller had quite a few New Zealand badges too but unfortunately I have no idea about them re: scarcity or authenticity. I wonder what the number on the badge was for. Regards Chrs |

Hi Chris,
I have a similar marked badge with number 3755. Cheers, Tinto PS The Samson NZ badge lot sounds interesting. |

He had approx. 10 cards of New Zealand badges both cap and collar. From a quick glance I would say that the condition was very good but I know nothing about EnZed cap badges at all. Might be worth a look if you know someone local to Samson who actually knows about these type of badges and who could report back to you. Regards Chris |

That number is the badge issued to the serviceman. I have seen one marked on a WW2 file (deafened as a result of being in a jeep that ran over a mine)
and it was called the "invalid's badge". Think that NZ badges were the only ones numbered. |
