Default Victorian Railways Military Band badge

Hello all

I have had this badge in my collection for many years but have been unable to find out much about it.

It is Australian made by Stokes so I assume the VR stands for Victorian Railways. The badge appears to be brass and is 38mm (h) x 34mm (w).

Early photos of the Victorian Railways Military Band from the 1908 era appear to show a different style of badge being worn.

Can anybody provide any background to the badge?

Thanks

Dennis

hi dennis
these are a lovely badge. ive had a few and was always under the impression that this version was post WW2, 1950s-60s.
no photographic evidence however i think the makers mark may date it to this period?

Thanks BC

I agree, the makers stamp would probably put it in the 1960's era.

Very unusual badge in that the train details appear to have been engraved after the badge manufacturing process.

For those that are interested there is also a smaller collar version, I have only ever seen one which belongs to a mate in Bendigo.
