Default RTR Unknown and dodgy badges

Hi folks
I've just uploaded a temporary album of RTR badges most of which are probably repro or fictitious.
Could those that have some knowledge of Tankie badges please leave your thoughts.
Cheers
Sean

Hi Sean, I think you know the answer. The fluffy white backing on the 5AC; RTC is a dead giveaway. The w/m or silver QC badges are correct in that they are made to be sold to the regiment or collectors. The TC and bimetallic badge are both fakes,I can't comment on the piper/band badge as I don't really collect them. The only embroidered badges for the RTR as far as I know were for the astrakhan beret which was bullion and a machine embroidered flat badge for the beret, hope this helps best wishes Mike

Sean,
I have this one on left. Pretty much identical to your number 20 on right.
The officers astrakhan beret (image only) was discontinued in 1978 so any example of the bullion badge should be 42+ years old!
I suspect our versions are not that old!

In a sense, "yes" but who knows if a badge on a beret is original?
eg some beret badges have blue scrolls, some white.

There were three berets for sale recently on ebay, one had been offered for sale on a Canadian dealers site for a considerable amount and then appeared on eBay for 800-odd quid, did'nt sell, another for £350, sold, a third as a buy it now £275, didn't sell, reappeared at a minimum bid price of £350.

The beret I have but with "added" badge which the seller and I thought genuine but no guarantee:

Even though I asked for an image, I might actually be able to answer my own question as I have an astrkhan beret given to me by its owner, in about 1978/79
Just need to find the box I've got it in now.

Hi, just came across these badges tidying up and thought they may be of interest. They are what the late Peter Payne thought embroidered badges for RTR should look like if they had used them, officers, ncos and other ranks. He had them made up in Pakistan along with many other items for collector friends. Unfortunately, though Peter did it with the best of intentions, many of these items now turn up as genuine items, best wishes Mike

Image attached of the beret belonging to a friend, a former RTR officer and this is the beret he wore.

He described it as "Hats Ridiculous", that it was designed by the COs wife, and that when he was at the military outfitters trying it on he was trying to hide his embarrassment while a Parachute Regiment officer was laughing at it!
