Pith Helmet
Hi all, found this Pith Helmet named to N. A. Mackenzie, R.E. " Royal Engineers", though the flash is modern, I don't know to whom though?
Any information on it is appreciated many thanks Billy

Just what I was hoping for but a bit shocked as to being a Military Cross! WW1 also a bit of a shocker but absolutely chuffed with that! Well both of these!
Because of the condition I thought perhaps interwar years! Many thanks am sure more information will come to light? As to what the M.C. was awarded for for instance?

True! and in truth that would still be good! The only other way to be sure would be the maker's name on the Hat band might narrow it down to a certain period of time, ie gone out of business 1920,s for instance, that would make the M.C. a higher possibility?

I believe the helmet is most likely an early WW2 example which was never really used, as most tended to be by that time. Many such have survived and are generally unused to any degree. The pagri on it is what they were made with from the manufacturer, but in actual use, they were replaced with a much thicker one with many more folds, at least on the ones pre war in actual foreign service wear. I also think the RE flash was added later.

The foil lining is original and was supposed to help diffuse the heat inside the helmet.
