Default Inniskilling button

This is a nice silver officer's quality button by FIRMIN & SONS LONDON, its approx 16mm across and has "Inniskilling" on a scroll below the castle. Is it Inniskilling Fusiliers or Dragoons, and worn on what form of dress ?.

IH

A guess only, if it is a service/full dress button I would be inclined to attribute it to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers as I can't ever recall seeing a Dragoon's button with "Inniskilling" on it only the numeral "6" or "VI"

Mess dress is another matter however as I have not seen any that can be absolutely attributable to the Dragoons.

Buttons must be one of the most under researched aspects of this hobby.

The one shown appears to be described as a post 1881 Inniskilling Fusiliers button in Parkyns book.

Default Inniskilling button

The regular post 1881 gilt buttons have the text Inniskilling superseding the castle for the Inniskilling Fusiliers.
Could this silver button be a volunteer batallion's button or a mess waiter's button?

Interesting point - not volunteers, the Irish regiments did not have volunteer battalions only Militia and so called "service battalions"

Just found this one from the house in Dublin. Like I understand it is Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers button? Made by JENNENS & Co. LONDON.

Hi, Yes, probably an early design, according to Ripley's book.
Cheers, Tinto

I would say it is a almost certainly an officers' mess waiters' button for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
