Default Unknown Newcastle Cap Badge

Hi All,

Can anyone help identify this cap badge please?

I know it is connected with Newcastle Upon Tyne because of the coat of arms but that is all I know.

Thanks a lot,

Michael

Newcastle City Police, senior officers cap badge. Possibly 1940s/50s. I think this is correct but Altcar73 will probably be able to confirm that for you, if you drop him a PM.

Spot on Phil (well almost). Its much earlier. 1900's plus but obsolete by about 1935.

Dave.

No problem Michael

I'm just not quite up to scratch on HO forces Thanks Dave, I assume then that by the 1950s they had bullion badges making the metal one obsolete for senior ranks?

Phil,

Post 1935 Newcastle Inspectors wore a very impressive KC wreath badge just slightly smaller than the helmet plate with enamelling in it. Those above Inspector wore a bullion wire cap badge (Arms in a wreath with KC on top). In 1952/3 they adopted the QC small senior officer style blue ring cap badge with an EIIR centre. Chrome & enamel for Inspectorate ranks and sterling silver & enamel for Supts. and above.

Dave.
