Not my area of interest at all, but felt I had to add a comment to congratulate you on an exceedingly well done job - excellent work with those cards there Madziro.

I also don't collect SA items, but these cards could turn me! Outstanding work.

Really like these. Some badges I haven't seen before. There are also one or two minor corrections that spring to mind that I will send through. I like that you have put 1960s-70s rather than specific dates where these are not neccessarily known. I have often seen people get very rigid on dates without taking into account that "approval date" and"issue date" can often be years apart (in either direction).

Hi Steven,

When I was in Kimberley in 1988, the Coloured camp was operational and was over the road from our camp. I can't remember what the unit designation was, but it was there in 1988.

Regards

Andrew

Thanks Andrew,
Thats good to know and I will adjust my dates. Can you recall what badges they where wearing? There is virtually no information on this unit. I will be scanning pictures of what the other units wore with rough timelines.

It's a pleasure. We had no real interaction with them, so can't tell you what badges they wore. Regards Andrew

Outstanding! On the SAA card, do you know the vintage of the red/blue Battery flashes. I'm interested because some similar designs were used as regimental vehicle signs by the RNZA in World War 2. Mike

I have posted another 15 odd badge cards and hope that they are of use. Mike, the SAA flash was introduced just prior to WW 1 as a helmet flash and was worn up to approx. 1942 when the SA army tended to stop the wearing of flashes on the polo style helmet.

Many thanks for the most useful info. May I use the SACC info on a card for them please? Perhaps we could turn this into a SA badge collectors communal reference project? I have some more cards to go on and I am building some new ones as time goes by. Will insert three more with grey blue border for early units shortly.
