Default QUEEN'S GURKHA ENGINEERS

Just purchased this off ebay (£6) - I'd not seen one before and wondered whether it's a recent issue or is it an "unofficial" badge ?

Very few of these modern cloth badges, including Formation Badges, Tactical Recognition Flashes, Helmet Cover Flashes and badges for ‘Floppy Hats’ are actually ‘issued’. Indeed, when and if approved by the Army Dress Committee (so making them ‘official’) their ‘production and use must be at non public expense’. Hence they do not have NSNs nor do they appear in JSP768.

That said I think that QGE badge is for the helmet cover or floppy hat. Also worn on body armour and personal equipment, usually attached by velcro.

There are some eBay sellers who obtain stocks of newly introduced badges direct from the manufacturers and often sell them at high prices and before the unit PRI shop can list and sell on-line at at lower price.

Then there are other cloth badges that have been worn without ‘official approval’ such as ‘morale’ badges.

Mike, thanks for the link. I now have a pair of these flashes and I also found a QGE stable belt which I have been after for a while.
