Lincs Yeo
My personal view is that I would doubt it- firstly this badge was sealed in gilding metal that had been bronzed, secondly I just don't like the markings on it, as if it got too hot whilst being braided.

Hi Chaps, Just thought I'd add this one to this thread, it has the void between the leaves & the scroll, which is small, unlike the larger cut out shown on the fakes in the earlier post. I'd welcome opinions on this, strong original slider & good detail, cheers, Wilf.

Guys,
some nice badges, less Alan's Gaunt DOT London and "sorry" Wilf the back of yours looks awful (IMO), modern slider and that artificial blackish colouring! A good indicator of a Genuine example is the area between the base of the crown and the center tip of the shield, the gap is quite prominent and genuine badges are often found either broken or with stress cracks in this area! Hi Andy, No need to be sorry mate, that's why we put badges up, so we can get other peoples opinions, & I like to take in other opinions as it all helps, cheers, all the best, Wilf.

Wilf,
only my opinion, as always and as you know I sell a bit!! I would not be able, "Hand on Heart" to list that one as genuine! I may be wrong so please don't have a rush of blood and discard it too quickly! Best regards Andy |

This unit which belonged to the Corps of Lancers, wore two different OR badges. The original pre 1908 veterans carried on wearing the Imperial badge and many had the lugs removed and changed to blades for wear on the solar topee. The second is the common brass badge with slider associated with WW1 service.

I like both of your "first" ones........ but the each of your second ones I would have my doubts about. I like the fact that the side leaves are under the shield and the flattish branch ends..... do you see what I mean? If you look at the white metal Imperial badge and then compare your first two respectivley.... they all have the same leaves "under" the shield.

Hi Malc
yes I realise that...... my problem is the second pattern ...as that one seems to have been very repro'd. If I could find one like your first badge "leaves under the shield" I would be very happy

I checked my OSD it has leaves under the shield also.
Thats the problem isnt it? Many of the reproductions are struck from the original dies. I will try to find a close up of the badge. Both the illustration used in the regimental history and the silk fag card do not show the leaves resting under the shield. The Wilkinsons badge books shows the leaves resting under the shield.
