Better still would be from top of knot to the bottom of the bugle ! (ie the badge not the fixtures)
Take some measuring classes as that is a key to badge identification.

The KLR School of Badge Measurements comes highly recommended !

In that case it's about 34mm.
I'm going to be a poor work man and blame my tools, can't find a decent tape measure that the end has't fallen off of.

Your book isn't expensive is it? I'm fed up with expensive books

A shame if its a duffer Ali, the last three of his service number was a nice touch for a faker!

Here is my example, good I think and came with its cap still attached to it.

Very nice Jerry, much better than mine
I was only really interested in the number to be honest and the badge is going back where it came from so no biggy. He'll also be getting a flea in his ear

Better late than never !

The size indicates that it is the cap badge authorised on 30th May 1951 as Pattern 14639.

Also used as the pattern for the AA version. Obsolete in (?)1958

Well your not the only person that's said that, but someone else is saying it isn't and the S should be fatter and the strike better. And if it was good it would be scarce. So now I'm in a world of confusion

Have just weighed the badge and it's about 10-11 g's. In case anybody wants to know its full vital statistics.

Alli,
I hope you mean g's and not KG's
That would make it a very heavy badge!!
In my humble opinion after your initial disappointment I think it has a few more positives than negatives in size and weight, the strike looks ok to me and it seems to be a beret badge.
If someone else has one it would be good to compare
Paul

Yes, I could elaborate there but perhaps I should maintain a discreet silence
