Help putting date to KSLI
Can the experts in the field put a date to this one please, am I right in thinking it's a later badge? if so the number is confusing.
Thank you Alli |

Hi Alli,
Not sure of the age of the badge, but it could be the soldiers last 3 which was commonly used when I served. Paul |

Aah hadn't thought of that! well done matey. If it is a later, say WW2 era obviously the service number would be longer so that would make sense. Just need to get a date to it. I was thinking the voiding round the tassels might make it later?

There is a lambourne one in Roy's album with the voided tassel's which would date around ww1

Well a voice from beyond the forum is expressing doubts on it's authenticity. I.e its a fakey bakey. That would make the whole thing less confusing

That's a shame, though I don't think it's uncommon for the fakey bakey scum to adjust modify or add something to a badge to deceive even further.

True doesn't matter, I've already given one badge back to him so can't say I'm surprised, he'll be at Thetford so I'll give this back also. Pesky people.
Can get on with my Lancs Fus Mons Star now. |

Additional info on this badge being a wrong un, if it were genuine would date post 1950 and the smaller pattern for the beret. These can be found but are scarce as they were quickly replaced by a anodised version and in 1958 became more or less obsolete (Brigade System) although TA and Cadet units would have continued to wear them. The Real Deal are struck better (no anorexic S) and have tapered sliders.

Hi Alli,
I'm not sure I can add much more but here are some general notes: The standard bi-metal large pattern cap badge (with slider) was worn for a very long time, prior to WWI right through WWII. The main thing I don't like about your example is that the KSLI is not a separate piece when viewed from the back. I have seen many such badges and suspect most are modern (post 1960's) fakes/reproductions. It is possible a few of these were correct but I'm not hopeful. Here is my album of photographs showing the large pattern bi-metal badge in wear. Most are from WWI but a few pre-war and some up to WWII. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=2648 Here is also my KSLI cap badge album. I don't guarantee all are correct but have kept any suspicious examples in the album as reference. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=2639 I normally have spares floating around but due to being gifted, don't at the moment but I'm sure spares will come my way down the road, so happy to send you some when that happens if interested? Cheers, Roy.

Thanks Roy. It was more the numbered slider I was intrigued by than the badge itself but I always enjoy learning about badges beyond what I normally collect. Have had a good rummage through your albums this morning, really lovely badges.
Thank you Alli |
