Scottish Dirk by Mole ?
A few years ago I bought what I thought was a fair quality copy dirk to complete a uniform on a mannequin. It was I thought a reasonable copy based on the genuine Liverpool Scottish dirks that I have in my collection and I did not pay much for the item.
In the last week or so a dealer has listed a similar looking item on his website: http://www.alliedandaxismilitaria.co...h=54220&phqu=5 It is so similar that I started to examine my dirk and was surprised to discover that mine also has "Mole" stamped on the blade near the handle and only visible if you are looking for it ( see last picture ). I am still tending to think ( despite what the dealer say about his example ) that my dirk is just a reasonable copy but would be interested if any member has an opinion. Thanks P.B.

Hi Peter
No, it looks like a standard British Army issue dirk as used by regimental pipers. These are cheap items and probably cost the Army less than 20 quid each. I have one which I bought through the RSDG stores about 20 years ago and it cost me about 20 quid or thereabouts then. They are purely for show and not a quality item and can be found with both QC & KC on the handle. Cheers, Alex |

Thanks Alex,
There are some horrific copies which you see at some of the Fairs and mine is far superior to those. The name Mole made me wonder because I thought that name stopped being used on edged weapons years ago. Regards Peter

I suppose I should actually 'fess up here and say that since your post, it's the first time I've looked that closely at mine and it also has the 'Mole' name on the blade . Never looked for a name on it before...

Thanks Alex,
In view of the provenance of your dirk I am now happy that mine, which is like yours, is not a copy. As I said in my earlier post, I had not seen the name "Mole" on the blade of mine either until I looked harder. People reading this will probably wonder how we could miss the name but it is in the recess where the bottom of the handle fits over the top of the scabbard. Regards Peter
