Unofficial Minesweeping Badge
Admiralty Fleet Order 3117 of 15th August 1940 notes that "Certain ratings in the Minesweeping service are wearing an unauthorised badge which is a rough representation of a mine. This is not authorised and may not be worn. The silver badge is the only one authorised".
The photo shows the official silver badge worn. Does anyone know what the unauthorised badge looked like please? Jon Last edited by Postwarden; 08-05-20 at 03:32 PM. Reason: Spelling |

Yes, I think, it looks like the "Churchill's Pirates" badge of which I have a couple.
Edit: link added. http://www.photodetective.co.uk/RNPS-PettyOfficer.html Oops, got it 'round my neck - thought it was the badge in the image you were after............. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 08-05-20 at 03:45 PM. |

Unauthorised and clearly hard to find. No offers from anyone?
