Allow me to add my appreciation for that amazing site.
If you ever wish to expand on your Yeomanry section, I heartily recommend Yeomanry wars: The history of the Yeomanry, Volunteer and Volunteer Association Cavalry : a civilian tradition from 1794 by Peter D. Athawes (1994). The information on unit lineage is exhaustive. |

Thanks for looking to it and for your appreciation.
I certainly will take a note about that publication. Your contribution is, in return, appreciated by me.

Hi Henk,
It may be of interest to note in regard to 3rd Light Horse Regiment in the Australian section that it was actually redesignated 9th Motor Regiment at the end of 1941. The 9th/23rd Light Horse Regiment became 3rd Infantry Brigade Reconnaissance Company and 4th Military District Reconnaissance Company, later 3rd and 23rd Reconnaissance Companies respectively. It was these two companies that formed 3rd Motor Regiment about April 1942, and subsequently 3rd Reconnaissance Squadron. Later in 1942 HQ 2nd Aust Motor Division tried to get the numbers reallocated to reflect the units' predeccessors but HQ Second Aust Army wouldn't allow it. However, when new colour patches were approved for 2 Aust Mot Div, 9 Aust Mot Regt were allocated the black/white of 3 LH Regt, and 3 Aust Recce Sqn took the yellow/green of 9 LH Regt. The effective date of change in titles from 3 LH Regt to 9 Mot Regt appears to be 28 November 1941 (Army List, officers' biographical entries), but Routine Orders Part 2 that noted the transfer of personnel under the new designation were not issued until 6 January 1942. I recognize that you are working by numbers in the re-raising of the post-war 3/9 South Australian Mounted Rifles and that is fair enough for the purpose but just for your interest, RHQ and HQ Sqn 3 Recce Regt were raised in 1948 from the former RHQ, A and B Sqns 18 LH(MG) Regt, and elements of the HQ Sqns of 3 LH Regt and 9/23 LH Regt; 3 LH Regt was reformed as A and B Sqns of 3 Recce Regt; and A Sqn 18 LH(MG) Regt was reformed as C Sqn 3 Recce Regt. I had been working on the lineage of the South Australian light horse regiments 1903-1953 recently in regard to an enquiry from somebody else, but couldn't attach that work to a PM for you. Cheers, Keith |

To come back to this for short remark.
I obtained The Volunteer artillery, 1859-1908 (Litchfield & Westlake) and The Territorial Artillery 1908-1988 (Litchfield) and managed to use the information there in improving the charts. Of course such things are never without errors and remarks (on typos, bad English, and/or the lineage itself) are most welcome as always. For those interested: The Volunteer Artillery of the British Army Or for the whole of Britain: The Regiments and Corps of the British army Or even more: The Regiments of:
