I have very few special forces badges from veterans with the excellent provinance, although as it has been proven on other threads everything that veterans sell or give away is not always right. Letters and even photographs can now be easily forged.

On another special forces forum many of the reatives of the veterans have had cloth insignia made to order from Pakistan for framed displays. they simply email the photograph to the chap in Pakistan and then after a few weeks the cloth lands on their doorstep.

If I was given the un wanting task of putting a value on those boards the price would hinge around the provinance. With provinance, with loop holes, those boards might only be worth half the top price quoted here. My point being that forum members can only really value what they can see in the picture, nothing more.
Jibba, you are very fortunate that you have a few special forces badges that have provinance, they will allways be a treasured reminder of the people you got them from.
I only have one LRDG badge, unfortunately it does not come with any provinance, but it did come with a 100% money return if proven to be a fake.
My guess is that if a badge poll was run on LRDG badges belonging to forum members, like myself, the majority would probably not have provenance.

You might be interested to know that I have had a close up view on Pakistan repros being made, it was around the time I was shooting AK47s in the Khyber Pass with the Khyber Rifles. (And yes I have 100% provenance of this in the way of photographs and official documents)

The great thing is that we have this forum which is certainly good at weeding out what is good and what is bad when it comes to SF badges.
The shoulder titles I have posted speak for themselves and reek of history that is well known to those who are students of the LRDG fame.

Jibber, I wish I could share with you all the paper work that provides the provenance, it truely is worth seeing, so many signatures of LRDG men who mostly are gone now, but sadly that is only trusted to a select few. Although you were conflicted with doubt on provenance, I respect your valuation.

Default LRDG Major Slip-on

Friends,

I have a LRDG Major's slip-on in my collection that you may find of interest.

No provenance, but that goes for 95% of my collection...

Cheers!

Johan

This little beauty was with a bundle of LRDG shoulder titles which also suffered some moth damage.
Very interested to hear peoples opinions on this one.

Well actually Mike Jackson beat you both to it (By PM) from just the discription I gave earlier. I tried a google search at the time, but could only find a picture of a armourded fist holding a sword with a half wing.

Has anyone got a picture of this badge being worn that we can share with the owner?

Also opinions on value would be appreciated.

Cheers

Try the Sikorski Institute for an image. John Waring, Pamphlet 2, C16 lists this item as a beret badge (although misidentified as 6 Armd Regt)

I have just received news from the owner of this world class collection that he has decided to put it up for sale very soon.

As this unique collection contains a bag of unissued LRDG shoulder titles and cap badges that were left in the LRDG QM Stores when the LRDG disbanded in 1945, I have asked the owner if he would share photos as a record for forum members of the last variation of badges and insignia that was issued by the LRDG.

The owner is not a member of this forum, but I have mentioned to him that forum members (especially the LRDG fans) would be very interested, and a bit of pre-sale advertising before he puts them on the market would not be a bad idea.
