RHA officer collar badges
All,
Please clarify if RHA officers wore the standard bronze grenade badge in Service Dress prior and into ww2, or did they have their own badge? Thanks, CB |

All Royal Horse Artillery Officers wear the Grenade collar badge as do all Officers in the Royal Regiment of Artillery. They are bronze on the khaki Service Dress Jacket and Gilt in the white Tropical Jacket. Gold wire embroidered grenades without scroll on the Number 1 Dress Jacket and silver wire embroidered grenades without scroll on the Full Dress Jacket which is now only worn by members of The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
Hope this helps. Last edited by 54Bty; 11-01-11 at 07:52 PM. |

Thanks much. I did think they wore the grenade badge, but wasnt sure. I also believe RHA officers wore ball buttons on Service Dress tunics instead of the standard RA buttons.

RHA ORs Collar badges
Hi 54Bty
Do you have a date when the ORs of the RHA stopped wearing the grenade collar badges and put up the RHA cypher please? Best wishes Gordon |

RHA ORs' Collars
Hi 54Bty
Many thanks for that. The two qc collars illustrated fit neatly into that category. However I would welcome your opinion on the attached kc badge which has lugs, albeit N - S. Could this have been a collar badge or would you assume from the positioning of the lugs that it was more likely to have been a beret badge? Many thanks for your help. Best wishes Gordon |

As far as I know KC badges were not worn as a collar badge, (still waiting to be proved wrong).
Both of the badges in your first image are of the issued pattern. However I can not confirm that the white metal badge is for the collar. Last edited by 54Bty; 30-04-10 at 04:50 PM. |

I'd concur with 54Bty, there's no evidence that I know of for KC RHA collars

RHA ORs Collar kc
Hi 54Bty and Eddie
Many thanks for that. This leaves me with two options: 1. The kc cypher is a reproduction collar badge 2. The kc cypher is beret badge with lugs instead of a slider Have there been lots of reproduction badges like this? If not could it be a lugged beret badge? I would welcome your opinions please Best wishes Gordon |

RHA badge
And that one 54 bty ?
Found on Dunkirk's beaches in the 80's. I think that some batteries of the 1st RHA were in Dunkirk in may and june 1940, others batteries were with the 51 highland division at st Valery. A London Firmin make, private purchase ? Thanks... I found myself ball buttons, with a gun on the same beaches. A friend of mine found on the same beaches a RHA badge with severals ball buttons... RHA Officers collar badges
Marc,
May I throw this one into the mix. It is a GviR white metal cypher. The lugs are short (6mm) and have the 'D' shape I normally associate with collar badges. Is this still a headdress badge or could it have another use? Many thanks, Stephen. |
