War Volunteers Badge: Bengal ?
Can anyone positively identify the below illustrated badge?
It is bronze and has a hinged pin and casp mount to the rear. The obverse of the badge has the entwined letters VW or WV, on top of a tablet with word 'Bengal'. I suspect that the badge was that worn by Voluntary War Workers in Bengal, or even Womens Voluntary War Workers in Bengal during the period of the Second World War. I would appreciate if anyone can shed any light on the badge and can positively advise what the badge is, how it was worn (cap, lapel ?) and if possible share any illustrations of the badge being worn. In advance thanks. Yours aye, Mark

Hello Mark,
As the V is above the W on the left side, and we read left to right, I'm certain the letters should be taken as VW, not WV. They are the same format as the First World War Volunteer Worker badges so my guess is that this badge is one of those but for Bengal. Unfortunately the Great War Volunteer Worker badges are invariably listed (and sold) on Ebay as WW2 Womens Voluntary Service badges, to which they have no connection! Wrong war, and not specifically for women. |

Union Jack's explanation sounds logical to me. It certainly does look like a VW badge from WWI, though I'd guess that was unlikely for War One in Bengal, so my own guess would be a Voluntary Worker in WWII, the badge based on the designs from the previous war and thereby adding to the obvious confusion on ebay!
