Doubt it as he only joined the SAS post war in 1950.

SAS was part of Airborne Forces since the SAS Brigade was formed.

I believe only the French SAS units wore the Pegasus flash.

I fully agree: Dare Newell was in SoE at that time and joined the SAS in Malaya.

To be even more precise, he was originally 4 Rhodesian Anti-Tank Battery, hence the Rhodesia shoulder tab.

The officer in the photo with Paddy Mayne and Roy Farran is Lt Col L E O Hart, from SAS Brigade HQ, (later 2IC 21SAS).

Default Lt Col Hart

Full name Lemon Evelyn Oliver Turton Hart, known as Pat and sometimes called Leo Hart. It's interesting that he was a temporary Lt Col in 1945 but is still wearing just his Major's crown in the photo.

Colin,
Many thanks for the identification of the "3rd" man and the mystery is solved!

Hello all,
I have the NO1 Dress belonging to Lt Col L E O Hart, from his time as a Lt Col in 21 (One assumes)

Does anyone have any original photos of him they can scan for me to put alongside?
If anyone has any items of his from his time in WW2 please PM me.
KR
Jon

Mike Sadler was the king of astro navigation in the desert. He was featured in the 3 part documentary on the wartime SAS shown on BBC4 recently. Probaly still available on I player.
