Default Any Sussex Home Guard experts?

Hi Chaps,

Over the years I have picked up any military item to my family name and some time back got this really great presentation cartridge belt. The inscription is to an officer in 'C' Company 2nd Battalion Sussex Home Guard. I would like to find some original insignia to compliment the belt but this area is not my speciality, so aside from the standard HG flashes is there any other specific insignia I need to look for?

Any help greatly appreciated

All the best, Roy.

Default 2nd Sussex Btn

Not an expert but...

The 2nd Sussex Btn were based in Petworth.

This reference will show the insignia you need to look out for.

Where C coy came from, I don't know but you are getting closer.

Not sure what the designated number would have been for Petworth but the 2 letter code would have been 'SX'. HG shoulder titles (i.e. 'HOME GUARD' are not that hard to pick up at the 'usual' internet dealers - Geoff Newman, Rod Flood for example - and of course ebay. I am sure that other HG guru's on the forum will know the Petworth number to go with the SX (or its affiliated area number).

David,

The problem is not getting Home Guard arm designations, it is getting specific one`s that you might be searching for.

When you think of the number of members of the Home Guard you do wonder what happened to a lot of the insignia.

Attached is a picture of the Hot Pot Supper held for the 89 ( County Of Lancaster ) Battalion on October 13th 1944.

Despite all the designations shown in the photos, I only managed, after many years searching, to get hold of an example of the WL89 designation.

Hi Chaps,

Thanks for the help, some great information. It's always great learning about a new topic, lots to learn and never gets boring.

So far then I'm looking for some HG titles (might have one somewhere!) but importantly SX over 2 (for Petwroth). Sounds like a good start.

All the best, Roy.
