Default 5 Bn Border Reg.

Two cap badges of the 5 Bn Border Reg. for comments please.
The style of crown is different on each, where there two different types.
The badge on the right is a recent purchase and is in near mint condition.
Is it genuine or new made, as some on the forum have commented regarding similar 'old' mint condition badges.

Thanks
Myles

I did think these two badges would get a few more replies than they have but thanks anyway to ricardo.

What are the time frames for these badges? When did the sliders become common vice the lugged examples? I am not a badge expert but I always wondered..

The design dates from 1908 to 1920. The Army took over supply in 1915 and if they made 5th bn badges then they would have been slidered.

The badge has been widely faked so I personally could not guarantee either as original or fake. If pressed I would prefer the one on the left. Whilst the 4th Bn has also been faked they are much harder to find than the 5th Bn due to the volume of fake 5th Bn ones.

A close up of the facets i.e the small squares on the star The fakes are quite easy to spot

On the 4th Bn fakes they are easy to slot by looking at the flat blunted points but the volume of 5th Bn suggests a much better quality copy.
